The HOPE Study

The Canadian Cholangiocarcinoma Collaborative (C3) was founded in response to the pressing needs for a national Biliary Tract Cancer network that addresses gaps in information, resources, psychosocial support, and access to research.

The Hope Study aims to document quantitatively how hope and loneliness evolve while participants take part in the C3 initiatives, explore qualitatively participants’ experiences with cancer, and assess potential strengths and gaps in the C3 programs. It is a mixed-methods study with three timelines for data collection: at T0 (baseline), at T1 (after the first information session with the C3 research navigator) and at T2 (after 2-3 months of interactions with C3 initiatives).

To date, 105 participants have completed T1 (70 patients, 35 caregivers), and 66 participants have completed T2 (46 patients, 20 caregivers). We have also conducted our first focus group.
